THE UNIQUE OBJECT

The unique object guarantees conflict. It is that which both the protagonist and the antagonist want to possess. One example of this is The Ark of the Covenant in Raiders of the Lost Ark. The desire for the control of this unique object leads to the life-and-death struggle that concludes in the climax scene. In many movies the unique object is concrete so that the audience can visually trace its movement between the protagonist and the  antagonist, but in other movies it is more abstract,
like control of the city in Batman and Spider-Man.
