In particular I would like to draw your attention to our most imminent events taking place in August: Initiated very successfully in 2001 and with participants from the UK, Germany, Belgium and Scandinavia the Showrunner Exchange: Drama Series (Los Angeles, 25-30 August) allows the participant to spend the week shadowing the showrunner of an individual long-running drama series. Prior to the UK's leading industry event, the Edinburgh Television Festival, the European Drama Convention (Loch Lomond, 21-23 August) offers international TV Drama professionals to address common interests and the increasing necessity for collaboration post the S&L withdrawal in the UK. Scotland 25-30 Aug 2002 Showrunner Exchange: Drama Series This programme is designed to explore the role of the writer/producer as 'Showrunner' and their creative and management responsibilities within all departments in the production of long running drama series. The participant shadows a US Showrunner throughout the development and production of one episode. Los Angeles 8-13 Sept 2002 TV Drama Exchange to Germany Visit Germany's most dynamic television centres Cologne, Munich and Berlin, the group will meet the key companies and their decision-makers and explore new possibilities for co-production. Following the Exchange there is the opportunity to join the International Media Week in Berlin. Cologne, Munich, Berlin 20-22 Sept 2002 The Spanish Film & Television Industry Spain's expanding role in the global film and television marketplace will be the focus of this three-day conference. The scheduled sessions will provide an essential overview of business opportunities available between Spain & the international community and how to interface with this market effectively. Spain Location TBC 22-27 Sept 2002 Series Workshop: Cops & Spies This event signifies a departure from the Exchange format to a hybrid, where the participating companies visit with certain key shows in the network schedule and then working intensively the remaining time with local US writers on their individual series project. This week's focus will be police and agent/thriller series. Los Angeles 29 Sept - 4 Oct 2002 Soap Exchange to Los Angeles Spend one week following the writing and production of US Soaps in close collaboration with leading creative and executive personnel. Understand the new conventions for this genre and their application for local production at home. Los Angeles 6-11 Oct 2002 Interactive Content Exchange to the UK As the UK is widely perceived to be the leader in interactive digital television in Europe, this Exchange is designed to introduce European and US professionals to the key UK technology companies and those creating interactive programming and innovative formats for television and broadband. London 6-11 Oct 2002 Kids & Animation Exchange to Eastern Europe As the Czech Republic is internationally renowned for its creativity, innovation and the economics of local production, the Exchange will explore the current influences in children's TV programming (live-action & animation) and will introduce the group to the key creative personnel behind the shows. Prague 13-18 Oct 2002 Eastern Europe Exchange With increasing pressure to reduce budgets, take the opportunity to explore the facilities and crews within the innovative and cheaper production options represented by the burgeoning markets of Hungary, Poland and the Czech Republic. Warsaw, Budapest, Prague 18-24 Oct 2002 Absolute Creators - The Role of the Showrunner in US TV and its application to German Drama Series A two day event exploring the role of the writer/producer as Showrunner in the US and its application to the domestic German industry. Sessions will address the need to balance the creative and management responsibilities while supervising all departments within the production. The following two days will be spent in workshops with individual German companies interested in direct work on shows currently in production and those in development. Los Angeles 3-8 Nov 2002 Light Entertainment Exchange Examine the prime creative and production elements underlying hit entertainment shows in the US. Understand the strategies of their development and the ensuing enhancement of the individual shows across all platforms. Los Angeles 10-15 Nov 2002 TV Drama Exchange to Scandinavia This initiative is designed to lay the foundation to a closer relationship and effective collaborations between Scandinavia and its European neighbours. Visiting Scandinavian's most dynamic media centres Helsinki, Oslo and Stockholm, the group will meet the key companies and their decision-makers. Stockholm, Helsinki, Oslo 13-22 Nov 2002 Interactive Content Exchange to the US Spend 3 days in New York's Silicon Alley, the week-end and 5 further days in LA gaining access to the latest US trends in interactive content development and the business models underpinning this segment of the industry.
