Cinema Next
New digital business models for film production and distribution
3rd February 2006 - BAFTA, London W1J
================================================================
The demand for well-crafted cinematic entertainment will always be
there; how content providers should best feed that appetite has
become the multi-billion dollar question.
Cinema Next is Screen Internationals latest agenda-setting
conference. Speakers from across the industry will talk about how
they believe that the film business will look and behave in the new
digitally-enabled sphere.
As part of the conference, a pioneering filmmaking competition sets
a challenge for filmmakers to use the latest mobile phone cameras
and digital technology to shoot a film, edit it, screen and stream
it to audiences.
Dan Marks, chief executive officer of video-over-broadband, BT
Entertainment will lead the day as the keynote speaker.
Other leading industry speakers include:
*Paul Trijbits (Conference Chair) Head of the New Cinema Fund, UK
Film Council;
*Richard Ayres Portal Director and Editor, Tiscali;
*Thomas Hoegh - Chief Executive, Arts Alliance Media;
*Richard Jobson - Writer/Director/Producer, Vestry Films;
*Barry Rebo - Chairman, Emerging Pictures;
*Nik Powell - Director, National Film & Television School;
*Lisa MacDonald - Controller of Acquisitions for Pay and Pay Per
View, BSkyB;
*Andy Birchall - Executive Chairman, On Demand Group.
The Cinema Next Mini-Movie Competition sets three filmmaking teams
the task of using the latest technology to produce short films,
which will be completed, edited and screened at the conference. The
competition has been set up by the UK Film Councils New Cinema Fund
as part of its commitment to explore the benefits offered by digital
technology in the making and showing of films.
The completed films will be shown at the conference, and the
audience will vote using an SMS voting system to choose the most
interesting film. The films will also be streamed on the Screen
International website (http://www.screendaily.com) where subscribers
can also vote for their preferred film. Dont forget to vote on
Friday at 4.20pm GMT!
The filmmakers selected to take part in the competition are Richard
Jobson, Martin Percy and Carol Morley.
