festivals:
"SEAFOOD", directed by ZHU Wen (script writer of Zhang Ming's "Clouds
and Rain over Wushan", Zhang Yuan's "Seventeen Years" and "Hainan,
Hainan"), starring Jinzi and Cheng Taisheng, is selected in "Cinema of
the Present" in the Venice International Film Festival. Shot on digital
video and converted to 35mm, the film explores the irony of how a good
deed is carried out by way of a criminal practice, and how death begets
life.

"HOLLYWOOD HONG KONG", a new title by Fruit Chan ("Little Cheung",
"Durian Durian") starring ZHOU Xun ("Suzhou River", "Beijing Bicycle"),
is the second part of a trilogy about prostitutes from China: A father
and his two sons, living in Hong Kong's last and poorest shanty town,
face eviction by the government; but the arrival of a beautiful girl
from Mainland China captivates their hearts completely and allows them
to escape the reality of their lives. The film will be in Main
Competition of Venice International Film Festival.

"BANG RAJAN the legend of the village warriors", directed by Thanit
Jitnukul, is based on the true Thai history in AD 1765 of a Burmese
invasion to Thailand. The film received 11 awards in Surasawadee Thai
Film Awards and Best Filmmaker Award in 3eme Festival du Film Asiatique
de Deauville (2001). "Pic's style is closer to Kurosawa's "Seven
Samurai" ... In a memorable conflict 60 minutes in, and especially in
the final epic slaughter, the films takes on an elemental power and a
heroic stature." - Derek Elley, Variety. It will be in "Midnight
Madness" in Toronto International Film Festival.
