Buddies, we need your help!!
We are searching for Buddies! Currently, we still have around 350 mentees
that need to be matched and only 50 active Buddies left
If you are a Buddy and would like to be matched with a new international
student, please email us at: <mailto:bebuddy@rwth-aachen.de>
bebuddy(a)rwth-aachen.de If you're already matched but think you could handle
another mentee, just text us too!
Unfortunately, many Buddies do not respond to our matching propositions,
which costs us valuable time. Please check if you have noted any potential
absence periods in your profile; it makes our lives much easier.
If you registered but havent completed the BeBuddy training yet, please
also reach out to us. The next virtual session will take place on September
30th. It takes a maximum of 1 hour, and you can choose a flexible time in
the following week.
Since many students struggle to find an apartment, we are asking for your
help. We are confident that everyone will eventually find a place, but it
can sometimes take a bit of time. If you have a free couch or even a bed
available for the next few days, we would greatly appreciate it if you could
let us know so that we can contact you in case of emergencies. It can be
quite difficult to find a spot in a hostel, and it can also be expensive for
some students. It would count as an elective component of the certificate
international Housing Support for International Students.
How can you support your mentee with this issue?
1. Activate your social network.
2. Book a hostel.
3. Check the housing guide
<https://www.rwth-aachen.de/global/show_document.asp?id=aaaaaaaaabdrzye&down
load=1> together and perhaps make some calls together.
4. Help with formulating a text for wg-gesucht
<https://www.wg-gesucht.de/> . Germans appreciate reading personal
information about the person they might live with.
If you do have a free couch, bed, or even a room, please write to
housing(a)rwth-aachen.de <mailto:housing@rwth-aachen.de> with the subject
Free Room/Bed/Couch. Since the housing team receives many emails, this
will help them recognize your message more easily. We will of course treat
your information confidentially.
Thank you for your support, you are doing an amazing job!!!
Greetings!

Dear students,
We would like to inform you about three German courses that the refugee team
of the RWTH Aachen University planned for you in cooperation with the
Language Center of RWTH Aachen University. You can register for individual
courses or for all three:
Course 1: Intensive grammar training (with instructions for further
self-study)
Date: 14.10.2024 - 31.01.2025, Wednesdays, 8:30 - 10:00 am
Course format: online on Zoom
Content of the course: In this course, you will review important basic
German grammar with your teacher and learn how to improve and practise your
grammar skills independently. At the beginning of each learning unit, you
will briefly check where you still have problems with the grammatical
structures. The structures will then be explained and you will develop
exercises together with other participants in the course and your teacher,
which you can use to practise individually and independently.
Aim of the course: By practicing grammatical structures, you can improve
your oral expression, your written expression and your reading and listening
comprehension.
Level: from B1.1
Course 2: Speaking and presenting (with a focus on technical German)
Date: 14.10.2024 - 31.01.2025, Mondays 12:30 - 14:00
Course format: online on Zoom
Content of the course: The natural science/engineering language course is
designed to support you at the start of your studies. By combining technical
language and speaking/presenting on STEM topics, you will be able to
transfer your existing skills into German and use German in a specialist
context. This will also enable you to work better with fellow German
students. The course also provides space to address intercultural
challenges.
Aims of the course:
* Preparation for university by acquiring basic vocabulary and
linguistic structures from science and technology (STEM)
* Practicing presenting and speaking on technical language and
subject-oriented topics
Level: from B1.2
Course 3: German for work and career
Date: 14.10.2024 - 31.01.2025, Mondays 2.30 - 4.00 pm
Course format: online on Zoom
Course content: Many international students look for a job in a German
company or research institution during or after their studies at RWTH. When
starting a career and in the initial phase of working life, the work culture
and dealing with colleagues are a challenge in addition to special
linguistic structures and technical terms at work.
The course teaches linguistic structures, formulations and typical
vocabulary from different areas of working life using examples (texts,
situations, etc.). In addition to learning strategies for specialist
vocabulary, dealing with linguistic and intercultural problems is discussed.
The respective subject areas of the participants are taken into account.
Aims of the course:
* Approach the topic of working in Germany while still studying
* Build up the necessary skills on the subject of "work"
Level: from B1.2
Are you interested? Please register by 22.09.2024 by e-mail
(flucht(a)rwth-aachen.de <mailto:flucht@rwth-aachen.de> ) with a copy of your
residence permit on both sides, a copy of your Blue Card and the course
number. You may participate in one or more courses. If you attend regularly,
a certificate of attendance will be issued by the RWTH Language Center.
We look forward to your registration.
Best regards
