We've been asking for several years (specifically, since 19 December 2001 - at least that's the earliest mention I can see). Roger

One is tempted to nominate for the Idiot Of The Month prize a smartlist administrator who has configured his list to return bounce messages to the posters of messages. My smartlist, and I am sure virtually all others, return them to the administrator, who can do something about them, and never to the subscribers, who cannot. I guess he just doesn't want to be bothered -- which goes a long way to explain why smartlist has become an antique among list managers. -- Stan Goodman Qiryat Tiv'on Israel "When your enemy falls, do not rejoice." -- Proverbs 24:17 Tap with hammer here >OOOO< for "breaking glass" sound effect!

I think you will find that the "paonia" administrator is the one at fault here. Check the headers of the bounce message you received. As a casual inspection of the headers of this or any other mailing list message will show you, this mailing list is run on mailman (because the RWTH-Aachen.de server was changed over to it some time ago).
which goes a long way to explain why smartlist has become an antique among list managers.
No, that would be because it doesn't have a droolproof web interface. Many modern email users appear to find the concept of "send a message to address 'x' with subject 'y'" too challenging for them. Mailman makes it much easier to join or administer a list even if you have minimal comprehension skills. Roger
