Please look at .examples/rc.local.r00 for a painfully simple method of placing X-Commands in the body that's pre-packaged in the SmartList distribution.

Sounds good. I made the X-Command change in a much earlier implementation of Smartlist, and haven't kept up-to-date with the improvements. Thanks for pointing out the example.
