Possible to include addressee in headers?
Hello, I'm using smartlist for a newsletter with about 4.500 subscribers. Every time I send my newsletter I get some mail delivery failures returned, mostly because of terminated accounts. Most failure messages provide a clear error message that includes the incorrect e-mail address. Unfortunately, some mail servers return an error message with the original e-mail (send by smartlist) attached, but with no mention of the e-mail address that failed. Is there a way to have smartlist/sendmail include the addressee in the headers when it sends the mail? In that way I would be able to find the incorrect address in the header of the message that is returned to me. -- Thanks in advance, René Pijlman <R.Pijlman@applinet.nl>

Unfortunately, no. Smartlist's virtue is that it sends the message to multiple addresses in the same transaction (or small number of transactions). There is probably scope for an add-on to send a probe message to addresses one at a time, every month or so, with a tailored subject line and/or bounce address; but there's currently no way of doing what you're asking. (And even if you could, some MTAs don't include the headers of the mail that caused the bounce...) Roger -- Roger Burton West -/- roger@firedrake.org http://firedrake.org/roger/

No. You could achieve the desired effect with a MTA capable of VERP (postfix or qmail) which includes the Envelope-Recipient into the Envelope-Sender-Address. I don't know how to alter SL to handle such bounce addresses. Werner
