RE: password moderated approval

Heh heh heh.. :) I don't mind being contradicted at all, and I *certainly* don't know anywhere near all there is to know about SL. I hope you don't mind my echoing your privately-sent helpful remarks onto the list, in case it helps with the case at hand... It looks like the manual could be slightly clearer on this point... Anyhow, I've updated the faq to include your clue. :) http://www.hartzler.net/smartlist/SmartList-FAQ.html#Section_8.1 I appreciate the feedback! Thanks, Pete. Well, you're the FAQ moderator, so I don't want to contradict you in public, but in the rc.custom file there is a place for a moderators' password. If set, the password must be placed after the moderators' email address in the approved header. However, AFAIK there must be a space, not an underscore, separating the email from the password.

I got it figured out, finally! My problem was not with the Approval sequence, but with my accept file. For some reason, and I have no clue at all as to how this happened, my accept file was reduced to only the list and list maintainer's address'. Once I added the address from which I was sending the messages. it finally went through. FYI, the sequence code I used was: Approved:emailaddress@host.net password Capital A on approved and a space between the Email address and the password. Thanks again everyone, Jack

While this will work, it's not entirely accurate. The moderator's address part is never needed. If $moderator_PASSWORD isn't set the contents of the approved header don't matter. If it is set, something in the header must match the $moderator_PASSWORD regular expression. Bassically the entire moderation process is handled by the following procmail recipe in rc.submit: :0 * !$^Approved:.*$moderator_PASSWORD | formail -R"From X-Envelope-From:" -uDate: -iReturn-Receipt-To: \ -iRead-Receipt-To: -iAcknowledge-To: | \ $SENDMAIL $sendmailOPT `cat moderators` Because of the ".*", it doesn't matter what comes before or after the password. -- Aaron Schrab aaron@schrab.com http://www.execpc.com/~aarons/ "All language designers are arrogant.
