Hmm... First, I take "opt-in" to mean simply that someone must ask to be added to a list (as opposed to simply adding them to the list despite their desires). What you are talking about, sending a message which must be answered is what most folks call "confirmation." That is, someone purporting to be Joe sends a s ubscribe request, the list sends back an email to Joe saying please confirm, and if (and only if) Joe sends back the confirmation then he's added to the list. I'm explaining this word usage in the hopes that it will help you search more effectively.
