Can I disable pipe through splitmail?

Hi, I have smartlist-3.15 running under FreeBSD-4.3 nicely. My problem is with dependencies on metamail programs because my server doesn't have X installed (needed to build metamail). I have located a standalone packaging of mimencode but can't find the same for splitmail. Can I remove the pipe-though-splitmail feature in mimesend as a means of working around this deficiency?
