Smartlist Confirmation Email

I am a new user of smartlist and when I subscribed to receive the newsletter I was sent a confirmation email which surprised me because I am using smarlist for my mailing list and it does not send out a confirmation email when someone subscribes to the list. How can I get smartlist to send a confirmation email when someone joins my list? Thanks for your help! Alan,
