Does anyone know if it is possible to get smartlist to include in the body of the message (or as an additional header) the actual address from the dist file that each message is sent to?
It is NOT possible. To understand why, you need to understand how the mail is sent (briefly, one copy is passed to sendmail with bunches of addresses, instead of a seperate copy sent to each address, therefore it's impossible ).
Frequently messages to my list bounce back to me from forwarded accounts which have expired, and I can't track down the bad address in my dist file. If I could see the original address as part of the bounced message it would make life much easier.
This is the purpose for the "probe" message. This list unfortunately doesn't have searchable archives, but this topic has been discussed _many_ times before (is this part of the FAQ?); it is necessary to find or write a probe routine which sends a unique message to each address in your dist list, preferably with both a unique header field _and_ an identifier high in the message body (since bounce mailers don't all send all of, or the same parts of, a bounced message).
