I'm now seeing some list messages bounce as a result of filters imposed by spamcop.net. They note that anyone who runs a mailing list and doesn't use authentication to confirm subscriptions is a spammer and is subject to their filtering. I know this isn't really a smartlist question, but is anyone else impacted by them? Irwin

"Not on accept list" message

I just started having trouble with my SmartLists - not sure what happened. Today, when I go to post from now the ONLY address in the accept file, it does not go out, and forwards the post to the maintainer with the message "X-Diagnostic - Not on accept list" But it is! Has anyone seen this before - I must maintain this as a very restricted list, as 1900 members get very teed off when anyone says hi to anyone else on the list.... Bruce Bruce H. Subscription problems

I am getting the following error quite a bit. Is there something I can do to resolve it, or is it on the client's end? The address is my own account (Replaced with account and host). Please let me know if I need to attach more information. 553 5.3.5 mail.host10.host.com. config error: mail loops back to me (MX problem?) 554 5.3.5 account(a)host.com... Local configuration error I am also getting quite a few people whose addresses are coming up "already in subscriber list". When I look at the DIST file, not all of them are in it.

You have been removed from the list

Howdy, My users are receiving the following: > Your mail address xxx(a)xxx.com has been removed > from the mpls-ops(a)mplsrc.com mailinglist. > It generated an excessive amount of bounced mails. How do I stop smartlist from automatically removing users since the bounces aren't their own fault? Thanks, Irwin

excessive quoting

I have a quote reject script (one from the Smartlist FAQ) set on all my lists to keep quoting to a minimum. Lately, more and more of my subscribers -- mostly newbies (both on my list and on the Internet itself) -- are using unconventional quoting styles and their posts are sneaking past the quote reject, often with massive amounts of requoting. My current quote reject script looks for the standard greater-than carats (>) at the beginning of lines. I now have several people who simply put quotation marks around quoted sections. For example: "This is stuff someone else said. I'm requoting it and then I'm going to follow it by saying nothing more than than I agree with what they said. I will not add anything of substance in my response, and I will do this repeatedly throughout the rest of my 40k post to this list ... today, tomorrow, and as long as I am a subscriber." And then they write their response and go into the next quoted paragraph. It's annoying as all hell and I'm getting complaints. Has anyone here devised a script to reject based on this style of quoting when it's used excessively? I would really rather not have to start siphoning off certain subscribers' posts just to count the lines by hand. That's such a pain. But my requests for these folks to monitor themselves have not worked. I have to do something. Any help or suggestions are appreciated. Violet xoxox

There is a new version of rconfig released ftp://ftp.pure.ch/smartlist/ rconfig enables you to configure your SmartList lists over a web interface. You can modify rc.custom variables and text files (like help.txt). There is also the possibility to send X-Commands through the web interface. New features of version 0.09 are multi language support (currently support for english and german) and the possibility to customize the descriptions of rc.custom variables in the web interface. AO-Hell

It appears that the latest version of AOL does not allow you send in plain text format. I have been blocking plain text for some time and do not want to change this. Does anyone know of any work around for this? Maybe RTF->plain conversion? No biggie if I can't, just checking.
