Please give me some advice on study plan!
Hi, I am majoring in computer science and plan to minor in English Linguistics. Yesterday Dr. Mirbach gave me a rough study schedule, but now I still have some questions: 1. In summer semesters there should be a lecture of Introduction to Diachronic English Linguistics, but I found only the schedule of the relevant exercise course from the web site. Maybe the lecture has another name? 2. I intend to attend the following courses in the coming semester: Oral English 1, Oral English 2; Comprehensive Language Course 1, Comprehensive Language Course 2; Introduction to Diachronic English Linguistics Einfuehrung in die EDV I have learned that in this semester Oral English 1 and Comprehensive Language Course 1 are for students who major in English literature. I wonder whether they are also for me. What is the concrete course name of "Einfuehrung in die EDV"? Because I have started the advanced study of main subjects, I hope to step out in subsidiary subjects. Do you think it is feasible? Please give me some advice on how to make a study plan! Thank you and best regards Yanhuai Peng
Dear Yanhuai! The lecture "Introduction to Diachronic English Linguistics" is often referred to as "Grundkurs B". Don't get confused with it, they both refer to to same lecture :-) You are right, the website designates the lecture as exercise. You'll soon find out why :-) And don't forget to register for the course. Have you already completed "Introduction to Synchronic English Linguistics" (Grundkurs A)? It would be advisable to do that. I am not quite sure about Oral English 1 and Comprehensive Language Course 1 In previous semesters, all students (literature and linguistics) were allowed to attend to seminars. So it shouldn't be an obstacle for you. But if you want to make it sure, ask Dr. Mirbach about it. She will know. The course "Einfuehrung in die EDV" is called "Introduction to Computer Based Linguistics". This semester, two courses will be offered: Übung: Introduction to Computer Based Linguistics, Group 1KerzÜT (2)Di 11:45h - 13:15h CREATE Übung: Introduction to Computer-Based Linguistics, Group 2SchreyerÜT (2)Mi 11:45h - 13:15h CREATE You may choose the course, but don't forget to register for it. If you have already completed "Grundkurs A", your schedule this semester should contain "Grundkurs B". If not, start with "Grundkurs A" and continue with "Grundkurs B" next semester. As there are three or four courses each for "Oral English 1", "Oral English 2", "Comprehensive Language Course 1", Comprehensive Language Course 2", you simply choose the seminars which fit your schedule. If you have further questions, Don't hesitate to write again. Best regards, Nicole
