Liebe Kolleginnen und Kollegen,

zunächst einmal wünsche ich Ihnen alles Gute für 2022. Wir hoffen sicher alle, dass wir in diesem Jahr die Pandemie bezwingen können.

Zum Ende der Weihnachtsferien möchte ich Sie auf einen möglichen Verlauf des restlichen Wintersemesters aufmerksam machen. Obwohl die Infektionszahlen in der Region noch moderat sind, ist die Beherrschung der Pandemie durch die Omicron-Variante auch bei uns absehbar. Daher möchte ich nochmals darauf hinweisen, dass es den Lehrenden nach eigener Entscheidung erlaubt ist, die Lehrveranstaltungen, sofern sie nicht zwingend in Präsenz stattfinden müssen, bis zum Ende des Semesters in ein digitales Format zu überführen. Bitte informieren Sie rechtzeitig Ihre Studierenden, damit sie sich darauf einstellen können.

Hinsichtlich der Durchführung von Klausuren sehe ich aufgrund des sich abzeichnenden Infektionsrisikos kaum eine Möglichkeit, diese während der anstehenden Prüfungsphase in Präsenz durchzuführen. Darüber hinaus besteht natürlich auch das Risiko, dass das Aufsichtspersonal aufgrund von Quarantäne knapp wird. Deshalb empfehle ich, dass die Klausuren nach Möglichkeit digital per Dynexite durchgeführt werden. Bitte lassen Sie die Planung dazu jetzt anlaufen, da für Aufsichten etc. auch Abstimmungen innerhalb der Fakultät notwendig sind. Ein Verbot von Präsenzprüfungen ist in der derzeitigen Situation noch keine Option, kann aber je nach Entwicklung kurzfristig außerhalb unseres Einflussbereiches entschieden werden. Deshalb machen wir uns mit einer frühzeitigen Entscheidung unabhängig von der Inzidenzentwicklung. Derzeit kann auch noch niemand abschätzen, ob es möglich sein wird, das ZuseLab, das Sparkassen-Forum, das HKW und die Couven-Halle für Dynexite Prüfungen zu nutzen. Das werden wir wieder nur kurzfristig entscheiden können.

Die gegenwärtige Entwicklung ist für uns alle, d.h. insbesondere für die Lehrenden und Studierenden, unbefriedigend. Die Hochschulleitung ist sehr froh und dankbar dafür, dass diese Gruppen durch eine sehr hohe Impfquote schon dazu beigetragen haben, die möglichen Folgen für uns alle abzumildern. Die Experten sagen aber, dass das nicht reichen wird und dass weitere Einschränkungen auf uns zukommen. Deshalb appelliere ich an Sie, durch eine möglichst rechtzeitige Planung, Verlässlichkeit auf allen Seiten herzustellen, soweit uns das möglich ist

First of all, I would like to wish you all the best for 2022! I am sure we are all hoping we can beat the pandemic this year.

As the Christmas vacation comes to a close, I would like to draw your attention to the possible scenario for the rest of the winter semester. Although the number of infections in the region is still moderate, we can expect to see Omicron become the dominant variant here soon. Therefore, I would like to once again point out that instructors are permitted to convert courses to a digital format until the end of the semester at their own discretion, provided the courses do not absolutely have to be held in person. Please inform your students of the change of format in good time so that they can prepare for it.

When it comes to holding exams, I see the chances of holding in-person exams during the upcoming exam period as very small due to the looming risk of infection. In addition, of course, there is also the risk of a shortage of supervisory staff due to quarantine regulations. I therefore recommend that exams be held in a digital format via Dynexite whenever possible. Please initiate the planning process now, as coordination within the faculty is also necessary for exam supervisory staff, etc. A ban on in-person exams is not yet an option in the current situation, but may be decided outside our sphere of influence at short notice, depending on future developments. Therefore, deciding on alternative formats early on allows us to be independent of the pandemic developments. At present, nobody can determine whether it will be possible to use ZuseLab, Sparkassen Forum, HKW, or Couvenhalle for Dynexite exams. Unfortunately, we will also only be able to decide on this at short notice.

The current developments are unsatisfactory for all of us, i.e. especially for instructors and students. University management is very pleased and grateful that these two groups have already helped to mitigate the potential consequences for all of us with their very high vaccination rate. But experts say that this will not be enough and that more restrictions are coming. Therefore, I would urge you to establish a reliable process for all by planning as early as possible and as much as we are able to.
