Hallo ihr scharfen Maenner! Ich bin die ReifeMarion und wuerde mich selbst als haeusliche und anschmiegsame Kuschelmaus bezeichnen. Mein groesster Stolz ist mein kleiner Garten und ausserdem koche ich fuer mein Leben gerne. Vor allem wenn die Leckereien dann gemeinsam mit einem netten Mann bei Kerzenschein verspeist werden und ich der Nachtisch sein darf! An meinem Partner suche ich Humor und Einfuehlungsvermoegen. Auch gegen einen knackigen, sportlichen Koerper habe ich absolut nichts! Das Alter spielt dabei keine wirklich grosse Rolle, auch gegen einen juengeren Liebhaber habe ich nichts einzuwenden. Simon Associate Laboaratory Director for Computing Sciences at Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory will give a presentation on Future Directions in High Performance Computing 2009 - 2018 Free entrance, no registration necessary. See http://www.rz.rwth-aachen.de/go/id/sng for more information. Abstract: Since about 2004 there has been a fundamental transition taking place in computing. The microprocessors clock speed improvement have leveled off, and future performance increases from processors will be realized through multi-core and many-core chips. This change in the basic building blocks for HPC has opened up the architecture discussion for future HPC platforms, and in 2008 we see vigorous experimentation with accelerators, GPUs, FPGAs, and embedded technology. HPC has not seen such a variety of new technology being explored since the early 1990s. In my talk I will explore what the multi-core revolution will mean for the future of HPC. I will use the very successful model of the HPC ecosystem and its important elements economic driver, system architecture, and programming model to explain how I think HPC will develop in the next five years. Several of the projects that are currently going on in Berkeley will be discussed in detail, since they will provide tools for the future productive use of supercomputers. They include auto-tuning, PGAS languages, and most importantly the Green Flash project, that attempts to find a new solution for energy efficient computing in the future. Kind Invitation to a one week Seminar in Parallel Programming in Computational Engineering and Science PPCES 3-2009 Monday, March 23 - Friday, March 27, 2009 in Aachen, Germany http://www.rz.rwth-aachen.de/ppces Introduction ------------ This event continues the tradition of previous annual SunHPC events taking place in Aachen since 2001. These have been orga- nized by the RWTH Aachen University in collaboration with Sun Mi- crosystems. We keep evolving the format over the years. With the shift to Intel Xeon based hardware in our Center, we also shift the focus of the tutorials towards Linux and Windows. After an introduction into the programming development environ- ments and parallel computer architectures, we will cover parallel programming using OpenMP and MPI in Fortran and C/C++ on Linux, Windows and Solaris platforms. Lectures will be complemented by practical exercises. Starting on Monday afternoon, we give basic introductions into the programming development environments on the platforms avail- able for the lab exercises during the following days. Those who feel comfortable with their favourite platform are welcome to skip these basic introductions on Monday afternoon or to take the opportunity to get hands on the other ones. At our Center we try to serve Linux, Windows and Solaris equally well. Participants ------------ Attendees should be comfortable with C/C++ or Fortran programming and interested in learning more about the technical details of application tuning and parallelization. The presentations will be given in English language. Speakers -------- We are happy to welcome Ruud van der Pas from Sun Microsystems as the main speaker of the seminar. We also invited Andrey Semin from Intel who will talk about the upcoming Intel Nehalem proces- sor architecture. Furthermore,presentations will be given by mem- bers of the Aachen HPC team.
