It is my privilege and honour to thank you indeed very much for the work and devotion with which you have mastered this office. I gladly remember the spirit of TC-6 which I experienced during your anniversary meeting 2002 in Lisboa, Protugal. With so many gifted and self-conscious members both in TC-6 and its working groups, it is not always easy to find the best solution for upcoming problems but you have succeeded to run TC-6 on a sustained level of activity and intellectual capacity. Indeed, it is essentially due to your careful and determined chairmanship that TC-6 is so highly respected in the Informatics community and is regarded as one - if not the - most active TC in IFIP. Thanx also for the constructive advice with which you have contributed to essential developments in Technical and General Assemblies. I sincerely hope that you continue in TC-6 as Protuguese representative and thus make your advice available to your successor. I also hope that you will be willing to lend your advice to IFIP EB on issues such as the new publication contract. Dear Otto, welcome as new TC-6 chair. After electronic election by TC-6, I have the privilege to formally assign you as new TC-6 chair starting January 1, 2004 for a 3-year period. Based on your own experience as past TC chair, you are aware that this is a sometimes difficult but hopefully often rewarding office. I wish you all success in assuring that TC-6 continues to operate in the spirit which was so successfully developped and maintained by Augusto. To both of you, and to all members of TC-6 and its Working Groups, I wish a successful, healthy and happy Year 2004.
