In the past few years, there has been growing interest in integrating stand-alone mobile networks with infrastructured wireless networks to create more robust and adaptable wireless networks. [Apologies if you receive multiple copies of this message.] ************************************************************** C A L L F O R P A P E R S IPSN 2007 Workshop Data Sharing and Interoperability on the World-wide Sensor Web (DSI'07) (http://research.microsoft.com/~sumann/DSI07) April 24, 2007, Cambridge, Massachusetts, USA (co-located with IPSN 2007, http://www.cse.wustl.edu/~lu/ipsn07.html) ------------------------------------------------------------------- Over the last five years, the research community supporting embedded sensing has benefited from the experiences of numerous real-world deployments. Actual scientific applications are on the rise, and a number of new environmental observatories are moving from planning to implementation (NEON, WATERS). In parallel, we have seen an expansion in the use smartphones and other consumer devices, supported by the cellular network and capable of capturing acoustics and images, creating a host of citizen-initiated sensing projects (e.g., videothevote.org). While many algorithms for networking and control of embedded sensing platforms anticipate within-deployment scaling of observational resources, the introduction of diverse environmental observatories and the variety of new urban applications suggests that interoperability, and for the purpose of this workshop the ``sharing" of data and models, represents another, equally important, kind of scaling. In this workshop, we focus directly on the implications of widely shared sensor data, models and algorithms, and the systems that might support this. Simply put, data is the raison d'etre of any sensing exercise. While few researchers in the field would argue the point, too much attention has been paid to the networking of distributed sensing and not enough emphasis has been placed on the tools to manage, share, analyze, and understand the data. Hosted in coordination with IPSN (emphasizing algorithms for communications, coding theory, and distributed estimation) and SPOTS (focusing on hardware and complete platforms), this workshop will examine the various uses of data associated with embedded sensing. Topics of interest (but not limited to): - Data interoperability - Data Semantics - Extracting information from data and sensor data fusion - Managing data uncertainty - Systems for data integrity - Modeling sensor data - Managing spatial and temporal data (e.g., indexing, caching, query processing, etc.) - Automated or semi-automated processing of ad-hoc sensor data - Architecture to connect multiple sensor deployments together - Data visualization - Mash-up applications (the ability to pull in data/tools from multiple places and render it at a client) and workflows Submissions: Authors are requested to submit original papers of no more than 6 pages (standard IEEE proceedings two-column format), including figures, tables, and references in PDF that include contact information of all the authors. Topics of interest encompass research advances in ALL areas of secure communications and networking. Topics in other areas (e.g., formal methods, database security, secure software, theoretical cryptography) will be considered only if a clear connection to private or secure communication/networking is demonstrated. Securecomm brings together security and privacy experts in academia, industry and government as well as practitioners, standards developers and policy makers. Securecomm also serves as a venue for learning about state-of-the-art in security and privacy research. Presentations reporting on cutting-edge research results are supplemented by panels on controversial issues and invited talks on timely and important topics. PAPERS: Technical papers describing original unpublished research are solicited. Submissions must not be concurrently under review by a conference, journal or any other venue that has proceedings. Authors of the highest-quality accepted papers will be invited to submit extended version of their papers to a special issue of ACM Transactions on Information and System Security (TISSEC). Well-marked appendices of up to 2 pages are allowed but will be read only at the discretion of reviewers. Short paper submissions are limited to 4 pages total. IEEE Communications Society and Create-Net policy states that all accepted SecureComm 2007 papers must have at least one registration at the regular rate. For authors co-authoring multiple papers, one regular registration is valid for up to two papers. All submitted papers will be judged based on their quality through *double-blind* reviewing, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers. IFIPTM 2007 Joint iTrust and PST Conferences on Privacy, Trust Management and Security July 30th -- August 2nd, 2007 Moncton, New Brunswick, Canada CALL FOR PAPERS http://pstnet.unb.ca/itrust-pst2007 Submission Deadline EXTENDED: February 23rd, 2007 In 2007, the iTrust and PST conferences will join together to provide a truly global platform for the reporting of research, development, policy and practice in the interdependent areas of Privacy, Security, and Trust. The iTrust international Conference looks at trust from multidisciplinary perspectives: economic, legal, psychology, philosophy, sociology as well as information technology, is built on the work of the iTrust working group (http://www.itrust.uoc.gr), and has had four highly successful conferences in Europe to date. The PST conference has quickly established itself as a leader in multidisciplinary research on a wide range of topics related to Privacy, Security and Trust, looked at from research and practice, through academe, business, and government. The two conferences come together as the first annual meeting and conference of the newly formed IFIP Working Group on Trust Management (IFIP WG11.11), a major step forward in Trust Management work globally. The program of the conference will feature research papers, industrial and government presentations. We are also keen to hear from parties interested in hosting workshops, both theoretical and practical, under the auspices of the conference - contact the Program Chairs for more details. It is expected that the conference will contain tracks on Trust Management, Privacy and Policy, Security, Public Safety and National Security, and Mobile and Emerging Technologies. In addition, iTrust-PST 2007 will feature a "Business Day" designed to bridge the gap between the research and technology being undertaken at universities and research organizations, and the practical needs of industry. We are soliciting Business Day presentations including industry presentations, workshops and panels describing innovative applications, case studies and best practices with a goal of fostering collaboration between the research community and the private sector. All reasonable typesetting formats are acceptable (later, the authors of accepted papers will be asked to follow a particular typesetting format to prepare their papers for publication.) The length of the Camera-Ready papers (if accepted) will be limited to 7 (IEEE style) pages. Papers must not have been previously published or currently submitted for publication elsewhere. The first page of the draft paper should include: title of the paper, name, affiliation, postal address, email address, and telephone number for each author. The first page should also identify the name of the author who will be presenting the paper (if accepted) and a maximum of 5 topical keywords that would best represent the content of the paper. Finally, the name of the conference/track that the paper is being submitted to must be stated on the first page. Each paper will be refereed by two experts in the field who are independent of the conference program committee. The referees' evaluations will then be reviewed by two members of the program committee who will recommend a decision to the chair of the track that the paper has been submitted to. The track chair will make the final decision. Lastly, the Camera-Ready papers will be reviewed by one member of the program committee.
