Our apologies if you have received multiple copies of this CFP =============================================== PRELIMINARY CALL FOR PAPERS The First ACM Conference on Embedded Networked Sensor Systems SenSys 2003 http://www.cens.ucla.edu/sensys03 November 5-7, 2003, Los Angeles, California, USA Sponsored by: ACM (Sigcomm, Sigmobile, Sigarch, Sigmetrics, Sigops), and NSF SenSys 2003 introduces a high caliber forum for research on systems issues in the emerging area of embedded, networked sensors. These distributed systems of numerous smart sensors and actuators connecting computational capabilities to the physical world have the potential to revolutionize a wide array of application areas by providing an unprecedented density and fidelity of instrumentation. They also present a host of novel systems challenges because of resource constraints, uncertainty, irregularity, and scale. SenSys design issues cut across multiple fields, including wireless communication, networking, operating systems, architecture, low-power circuits, distributed algorithms, data processing, scheduling, sensors, energy harvesting, and signal processing, so a holistic approach is required. SenSys seeks to provide a cross-disciplinary venue for researchers addressing the rich space of networked sensor system design issues to interact and exchange recent results. It is the first of a planned series of annual meetings with a highly selective, single-track technical program and a hands-on research exhibition. This inaugural 2003 conference shall take place in Los Angeles, CA. PAPERS: Technical papers describing original, previously unpublished research are solicited. In general this conference is interested in papers that address system issues in embedded networked systems. Specific topics of interest include the following: * Network protocols for sensor networks * Operating system and middleware for sensor networks * Distributed database processing in sensor networks * Distributed algorithms for sensor networks * Novel sensor node hardware and software platforms * Sensor network planning and deployment * Energy management in sensor networks * Adaptive topology management * In-network processing and aggregation * Data storage in sensor networks * Distributed and collaborative signal processing * Distributed Actuation, Control, and Coordination * Localization in time and space * Distributed calibration in sensor networks * Simulation and optimization tools * Applications of distributed sensor networks * Security and Robustness in sensor networks Please consult the program chairs at sensys03-pcchairs(a)cens.ucla.edu if you are uncertain whether your paper is in the scope of the conference. PAPER SUBMISSION INSTRUCTIONS All submissions will be handled electronically and must be in PDF or PostScript format. Papers must not exceed 15 pages (US "Letter" size, 8.5 x 11 inches) including text, figures and references. The font size must be at least 10 points. Accepted papers will be published in the conference proceedings. We will adopt a double-blind process for paper review, where the identities of the authors are withheld from the reviewers. Authors' names and their affiliations must not be revealed or mentioned anywhere in the paper or in the postscript or PDF file. Submitted papers should be original, unpublished work and not currently under review for any other conference or journal. Papers not following these guidelines will be rejected. Dear all, thank you very much for *the proposals made to Plamen Nedkov* in ordert that "30 years of IFIP TC6" is the IFIP event of the year. Apparently we got the highest number of proposals. However now we must really vote for our event. See Plamen nedkov's message below. Take into account the deadline. Best regards Otto ------------------------------------- SUBJECT: Choose one of the seven events listed below and send to <vote(a)ifip.or.at> DEADLINE for voting: 10 December 2002 It's time to vote for the IFIP Event of the Year, for the IFIP activity, project or conference which impressed you most during the course of 2002. Below is a list which we compiled on the basis of nominations. The list contains some key words and links which hopefully would help in making your choice. Here is the list: 1. ***30th Anniversary of TC 6*** http://www.ifip.or.at/mail/msg00176.html, http://www.ifip.or.at/mail/msg00182.html and http://www.ifip.or.at/mail/msg00185.html - the 30th Anniversary of TC 6 is no doubt a key IFIP event which marks an important anniversary of one of the most active IFIP technical committees. It also highlights IFIP's role in one of the most important discoveries of the 20th century. 2. ***Project "The Day of the President"*** http://www.ifip.or.at/secretariat/presidentday.htm , labelled "Le Must", kept the IFIP community focused on the interviews of past presidents. The project spins a tale of major IFIP accomplishments and offers visions for the future. 3. ***17th World Computer Congress 2002 in Montreal*** http://www.wcc2002.org - A flagship event which kept nearly all of IFIP's TCs involved in the program. 4. ***The IFIP-UNESCO Partnership*** On the basis of an evaluation IFIP was recognized as an "essential partner" and the formal consultative relations between the two organizations were renewed for another 6 years. The UNESCO-IFIP WCC 2002 Declaration of ICT and Youth, now available in English, French and Spanish - http://www.ifip.or.at/minutes/ga2002/youth_declaration.pdf - is an important contribution to WSIS. UNESCO provided its auspices to WITFOR. The two organizations worked closely for a mutually beneficial partnership. 5. ***Establishment of a Specialist Group (SG) on Entertainment Computing*** http://www.ifip.or.at/minutes/ga2002/sg_ec.pdf -- For more than a decade IFIP has hesitated to establish a SG with the potential to grow into a Technical Committee. This newly established SG is promising and provides a forum for an active involvement of Industry in IFIP. 6. ***IT STAR*** http://www.ifip.or.at/it-star - This regional initiative helped recruit a new IFIP member society and has the potential to attract at least 2 more IFIP members in 2003. It launched an IT STAR Newsletter, published national reports on ICT in the region and is working on a project for an IT Pool of Experts which could have a spin-off effect to other world regions for the benefit of other IFIP member societies. 7. ***SEC III Conference in Dortmund, DE*** http://seciii.cs.uni-dortmund.de/index_html -- this World Conference on "Social, Ethical and Cognitive Issues of Informatics and ICT" held on 22-26 July 2002, was a major event in the TC 3 program of activities.
