The symposium specifically focuses on concurrent software but does not exclude the analysis of sequential software. Submissions are solicited on theoretical results, novel algorithms, tool development, and empirical evaluation. The SPIN symposium originated as a workshop focusing on explicit state model checking, specifically as related to the SPIN model checker. However, over the years it has evolved to a broadly-scoped symposium for software analysis using any automated techniques, including model checking, automated theorem proving, and symbolic execution. In celebration of the 30th edition of the symposium, SPIN 2024 features a special track for historical accounts and other broad discussions (see below). The proceedings of SPIN 2024 will be published in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. Submissions should adhere to the LNCS format: https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-gu… With the exception of survey and history papers, the papers should contain original work that has not been submitted or accepted for publication elsewhere. We are soliciting three categories of papers: * Full Research Papers describing fully developed work and complete results (16 pages, excluding bibliography); * Short Papers presenting tools, technology, experiences with lessons learned, new ideas, work in progress with preliminary results, and novel contributions to formal methods (6 pages, excluding bibliography). * Special anniversary track: to celebrate the 30th edition of SPIN, we invite submissions that present the field of formal methods in a broad sense. These may be historical accounts, discussion of successful research lines, surveys, position papers etc (16 pages, excluding bibliography). All papers that conform to submission guidelines will be peer-reviewed by members of the program committee. Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of originality, the importance of contribution, soundness, evaluation, quality of presentation, and appropriate comparison to related work. At least one author of each accepted paper must attend the symposium and present the paper. A Best Paper award will be announced and handed out at the conference. A selection of papers will be invited to a special issue of the International Journal on Software Tools for Technology Transfer (STTT). ARTIFACTS SPIN 2024 introduces an artifact evaluation, performed by an Artifact Evaluation Committee (AEC). The AEC evaluates artifacts based on documentation, availability, reproducibility of results and reusability. Papers with an accompanying artifact may be awarded one or more badges from the EAPLS artifact badging scheme. Submission of an artifact is optional. New models, architectures, languages, and verification techniques are necessary to cope with the complexity induced by the demands of today's software development. Coordination languages have emerged as a successful approach, in that they provide abstractions that cleanly separate behaviour from communication, therefore increasing modularity, simplifying reasoning, and ultimately enhancing software development. Submission ============= We invite you to submit: - Regular papers (7-15 pages, not counting references): describing thorough and complete research results and experience reports. In a clear case of need, as an exception, authors may ask for permission via email to the PC co-chairs to exceed the paper's max length by at most 10%, under the condition that last-minute shortening would really damage the clarity of the paper or result in non-submission. The authors must make a draft of the paper available to the PC co-chairs via EasyChair. - Short papers (4-6 pages, not counting references): describing research in progress or opinion papers on the past of COORDINATION research, on the current state of the art, or on prospects for the years to come. - Survey papers (16-25 pages, not counting references): describing important results and success stories related to the topics of COORDINATION. - Tool papers (4-15 pages, not counting references): describing technological artefacts in the scope of the research topics of COORDINATION. Tool papers should provide a clear account of the tool's functionality, discuss the tool's practical capabilities possibly with reference to the type and size of problems it can handle, and, when applicable, report on realistic case studies (possibly providing a rigorous experimental evaluation). Tool papers may also provide an account of the theoretical foundations, including relevant citations, and present design and implementation concerns, possibly including software architecture and core data structures. Papers that present extensions to existing tools should clearly describe the improvements or extensions with respect to previously published versions of the tool, possibly providing data on enhancements in terms of resources and capabilities. Papers may contain a link to a publicly downloadable MPEG-4 demo video of at most 10 minutes length. Artefacts ============ Following ACM's definition [1], an artefact is "a digital object that was either created by the authors to be used as part of the study or generated by the experiment itself. For example, artifacts can be software systems, scripts used to run experiments, input datasets, raw data collected in the experiment, or scripts used to analyze results". To improve and reward reproducibility and to give more visibility and credit to the effort of tool developers in the COORDINATION community, authors of submitted papers are invited to submit publicly available artefacts (using permanent repositories such as Software Heritage, Zenodo, etc.), which will be associated with their paper for evaluation. Based on the result of the artefact evaluation, one or more badges may be applied to a paper. Specifically, COORDINATION uses the EAPLS badging scheme [2], which in its own turn is based on and consistent with the ACM initiative. Artefact submission is mandatory for tool papers and the result of the artefact evaluation will be considered in the tool paper's acceptance decision. Instead, artefact submission is optional for all the other paper categories and the result of the artefact evaluation will not affect the paper's acceptance decision but may affect the best paper selection. D-CON ist ein Workshop von DoktorandInnen im Bereich Concurrency Theory. Er dient zum Austausch und zur Diskussion; es kann daher auch Work-In-Progress vorgestellt werden. Termin bitte schon einmal vormerken und gerne auch bereits mögliche Vorträge überlegen. The RWTH Aachen University is looking for enthusiastic and highly qualified doctoral researchers. Various positions are available within the interdisciplinary Research Training Group (RTG) UnRAVeL founded by Deutsche Forschungsgemeinschaft (DFG). The key emphasis of an RTG is on the qualification of doctoral researchers with a focused research program and a structured training strategy. The RTG UnRAVeL aims to significantly advance probabilistic modelling and analysis for uncertainty by developing new theories, algorithms, and tool-supported verification techniques, and to apply them to core problems from application areas such as: applied machine learning (in control theory as well as network and data science), planning in AI (e.g., robotics), as well as safety and performance analysis (e.g., railway systems). Within UnRAVeL, theoretical computer scientists from computer-aided verification, automata and logic, algorithms and complexity, together with experts from management science (robust optimization), applied computer science (network and data science, graoh neural networks), mechanical (control theory) and railway engineering (safety and capacity planning) intensively cooperate. Your profile. Candidates must have (or soon obtain) a master degree in Computer Science, Mathematics or related area and have completed their studies with excellent grades. You should have interest in performing original, highly competitive scientific research, publishing your results in top conferences and scientific journals. Self-motivation and the ability to work both independently and as a team player in local and international research groups are expected. The symposium specifically focuses on concurrent software but does not exclude the analysis of sequential software. Submissions are solicited on theoretical results, novel algorithms, tool development, and empirical evaluation. The SPIN symposium originated as a workshop focusing on explicit state model checking, specifically as related to the SPIN model checker. However, over the years it has evolved to a broadly-scoped symposium for software analysis using any automated techniques, including model checking, automated theorem proving, and symbolic execution. In celebration of the 30th edition of the symposium, SPIN 2024 features a special track for historical accounts and other broad discussions (see below). Topics of interest include, but are not limited to: - Insightful surveys or historical accounts on topics of relevance to the symposium, for the special anniversary track (see below) - Formal verification techniques for automated analysis of (concurrent) software/hardware, including: - Model checking - Deductive verification - Automated theorem proving, including SAT and SMT - Abstraction and symbolic execution techniques - Static analysis and abstract interpretation - Modular and compositional verification techniques - Verification of timed and probabilistic systems - Automated testing using advanced analysis techniques - Program synthesis - Derivation of specifications, test cases etc. via formal analysis - Formal specification languages, temporal logic, design-by-contract - Formal analysis of learned systems - Any combination of the above - Application and/or engineering of verification tools, including: - Case studies of interesting systems or with interesting results - Implementation of novel verification tools - Benchmarks and comparative studies for verification tools - Verification tools using modern hardware, e.g.: multi-core CPU, GPU, TPU, cloud, and quantum IMPORTANT DATES Submissions due: January 15, 2024 (23:59:59 Anywhere on Earth) Author notification: February 26, 2024 Camera ready: March 11, 2024 Symposium: between April 6 and 11, 2024. Exact dates will be announced later. SUBMISSION CATEGORIES AND GUIDELINES Papers should be submitted via the EasyChair SPIN 2024 submission website. The link will be published later on the SPIN 2024 website. The proceedings of SPIN 2024 will be published in Springer’s Lecture Notes in Computer Science series. Submissions should adhere to the LNCS format: https://www.springer.com/gp/computer-science/lncs/conference-proceedings-gu… With the exception of survey and history papers, the papers should contain original work that has not been submitted or accepted for publication elsewhere. We are soliciting three categories of papers: * Full Research Papers describing fully developed work and complete results (16 pages, excluding bibliography); * Short Papers presenting tools, technology, experiences with lessons learned, new ideas, work in progress with preliminary results, and novel contributions to formal methods (6 pages, excluding bibliography). * Special anniversary track: to celebrate the 30th edition of SPIN, we invite submissions that present the field of formal methods in a broad sense. These may be historical accounts, discussion of successful research lines, surveys, position papers etc (16 pages, excluding bibliography). All papers that conform to submission guidelines will be peer-reviewed by members of the program committee. Submissions will be evaluated on the basis of originality, the importance of contribution, soundness, evaluation, quality of presentation, and appropriate comparison to related work. At least one author of each accepted paper must attend the symposium and present the paper. A Best Paper award will be announced and handed out at the conference. Traditionally, a selection of papers were invited to a special issue of the International Journal on Software Tools for Technology Transfer (STTT). ARTIFACTS SPIN 2024 introduces an artifact evaluation, performed by an Artifact Evaluation Committee (AEC). The AEC evaluates artifacts based on documentation, availability, reproducibility of results and reusability. [Apologies for cross-posting] We are seeking after applicants for the PhD project Compiler Optimization for Shuttling-Based Quantum Computing Architectures (COSMOS) to be pursued at RWTH Aachen University. The goal of this project is to develop systematic support for compiling quantum software to computing architectures featuring qubit shuttling operations, which allow to dynamically reconfigure the quantum circuit between subsequent gate operations. They are common for quantum computing architectures based on semiconductor qubits, trapped ions, or neutral atoms. While there exists a large body of work for non-shuttling architectures, advanced compilation methods that allow to move qubits are rather scarce. We aim to provide a contribution to this field in the form of a systematic framework building on graph transformations, which will enable the use of classical compiler optimization techniques to be applied in a quantum setting. The resulting gain in algorithmic efficiency will accelerate the advent of applications on shuttling based architectures. The project is a cooperation between the JARA-FIT Institute for Quantum Information and the Software Modeling and Verification (MOVES) Group at RWTH Aachen University and will be jointly supervised by Hendrik Bluhm and Thomas Noll. [Apologies for multiple copies.] We are looking for applicants for the PhD project “Towards Zero-Defect Quantum Programs” at RWTH Aachen University. The aim of the project is to develop methods for statically analysing programs intended for near-term quantum computers by combining techniques from the verification of probabilistic programs and the verification of quantum programs. This shall enable developers on quantum hardware to drastically reduce the amount of testing and simulation required, and to detect errors early in the program design and to understand them more easily, thus streamlining the software development process and significantly reducing testing and simulation costs. A particular focus will be on near-term systems with realistic error models (NISQ), and on use-cases from practice. The project is a cooperation between the Chair of Quantum Information Systems and the Software Modeling and Verification (MOVES) group at RWTH Aachen University and will be jointly supervised by Joost-Pieter Katoen and Dominique Unruh. Candidates must have (or soon obtain) a master degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Physics or related area and have completed their studies with excellent grades. Kolloquium Programmiersprachen und Grundlagen der Programmierung (KPS 2023) setzt eine traditionelle Reihe von Arbeitstagungen fort, die 1980 von den Forschungsgruppen der Professoren Friedrich L. Bauer (TU München), Klaus Indermark (RWTH Aachen) und Hans Langmaack (CAU Kiel) ins Leben gerufen wurde. Die Veranstaltung ist ein offenes Forum für alle interessierten deutschsprachigen Wissenschaftler:innen zum zwanglosen Austausch neuer Ideen und Ergebnisse aus den Forschungsbereichen Entwurf und Implementierung von Programmiersprachen sowie Grundlagen und Methodik des Programmierens. Die wissenschaftlichen Beiträge werden in einem informellen Tagungsband zusammengefasst, der online zur Verfügung gestellt wird. Eine formale Auswahl der Beiträge durch Begutachtung findet nicht statt. Dieses Veranstaltungsformat ermöglicht es den Vortragenden, neue Ideen zu präsentieren und sie mit anderen Teilnehmer:innen zu diskutieren.
