Liebe Coscine-Nutzende,

im aktuellen Newsletter informieren wir Sie über kommende Features in Coscine, die verbesserte Suchfunktion auf der Webseite von Coscine sowie über kommende Veranstaltungen.

Neue Features

Im Laufe des nächsten Monats wird es zwei wichtige Neuerungen geben: Eine neue Login-Möglichkeit und ein neues Feature für die Anfrage einer Datenveröffentlichung. Bei der neuen Login-Möglichkeit handelt es sich um die NFDI4Ing-AAI bzw. NFDI RegApp Community AAI. Das langfristige Ziel ist der Umstieg auf eine einzige Login-Möglichkeit für Coscine, in diesem Fall die RegApp. Da Sie sich mithilfe der RegApp zukünftig sowohl über den SSO Ihrer Hochschule als auch über die ORCiD anmelden können, bleibt auch die Kooperationsmöglichkeit mit externen Projektpartnern problemlos bestehen. Über Änderungen diesbezüglich informieren wir Sie frühzeitig im Newsletter.

Abgesehen davon wird die Anfrage für eine Datenveröffentlichung als neues Feature implementiert. Dadurch können Nutzende für alle oder ausgewählte Ressourcen eines Coscine-Projektes eine Anfrage an den Publikationsdienst Ihrer Hochschule schicken. Zunächst wird in der Pilotphase nur der RWTH Publications Service eingebunden. Bald werden jedoch auch weitere Publikationsdienste folgen. Sollten Sie einer anderen Hochschule angehören, bitten wir diesbezüglich um etwas Geduld und informieren im Newsletter, sobald weitere Möglichkeiten zur Verfügung stehen.

Verbesserte Suchfunktion der Webseite

Die Webseite von Coscine inkl. der Dokumentation bietet nun eine Suchfunktion. Dadurch können ausgewählte Informationen, z.B. Details zu den Support-Strukturen einfacher und schneller gefunden werden. Probieren Sie die verbesserte Suchfunktion gerne direkt aus [1].

JARDS-Antrag

Für die Beantragung von Speicherplatz in Coscine wird die JARDS-Plattform verwendet. In den Antragsformularen wird nun am Anfang gefragt, ob dies der erste Speicherplatzantrag für das Coscine-Projekt ist. Falls dies der Fall ist, klicken Sie „Nein“ an. Sollten Sie jedoch für das gleiche Projekt in Coscine bereits einen Speicherplatz-Antrag gestellt haben, wählen Sie „Ja“. Dies ermöglicht den Reviewern einen leichteren Überblick und eine sorgfältigere Durchführung der Reviews.

Veranstaltungen

Am 5. September 2024 wird Coscine mit einem Stand beim Young Academics Day (YAD) der RWTH Aachen vertreten sein. Am YAD werden Nachwuchswissenschaftlerinnen und -wissenschaftler in allen Karrierephasen von der Promotion, über die Postdoc-Phase bis hin zur Professur intensiv beraten und gefördert.

Vom 11. bis 12. September 2024 findet der Workshop Data Stewardship goes Germany (DSgG) in Aachen statt. Dort wird am zweiten Tag ein Talk zu Coscine unter dem Motto „Coscine and Data Stewardship“ stattfinden. Der 20-minütige Talk wird aus drei kurzen Flashtalks bestehen und Themen behandeln wie Data Stewards Forschende bei der täglichen Nutzung von Coscine unterstützen können.

Am 10. Oktober 2024 findet ein Basis-Workshop zu Coscine online statt.

Im November startet außerdem im Rahmen des FDM-II-Moduls die Reihe der Coscine-Workshops. Innerhalb dieser Reihe wird ebenfalls ein Basis-Workshop sowie ein Workshop zu Metadatenprofilen und zu automatisierten Prozessen in und mit Coscine angeboten.

Dear Coscine Users,

In this edition of our newsletter, we inform you about the new features in Coscine, the improved search function on the website of Coscine as well as upcoming events.

New Features

There will be two important changes planned over the next month: A new login option and a new feature for requesting a data publication. The new login option is the NFDI4Ing AAI or NFDI RegApp Community AAI. The long-term goal is to switch to a single login option for Coscine, in this case the RegApp. As you will be able to use the RegApp to log in via your university's SSO as well as via ORCiD in future, you will still be able to cooperate with external project partners without any problems. We will inform you of any changes in this regard in good time in the newsletter.

Apart from this, the request for data publication will be implemented as a new feature. This allows users to send a request to the publication service of their university for all or selected resources of a Coscine project. Initially, only the RWTH Publications Service will be integrated in the pilot phase. However, other publication services will soon follow. If you belong to another university, please be patient and we will inform you in the newsletter as soon as further options are available.

Improved Website Search Function

The website of Coscine, including the documentation, now offers a search function. This makes it easier and quicker to find selected information, e.g. details on the support structures. You are welcome to try out the improved search function directly [1].

JARDS Application

The JARDS platform is used to apply for storage space in Coscine. The application forms now ask at the beginning whether this is the first storage space application for the Coscine project. If this is the case, click on ‘No’. However, if you have already submitted a storage space request for the same project in Coscine, select ‘Yes’. This makes it easier for the reviewers to get an overview and carry out the reviews more carefully.

Events

On September 5, 2024, Coscine will be represented with a stand at RWTH Aachen University's Young Academics Day (YAD). At the YAD, young academics receive intensive advice and support at all stages of their careers, from doctoral studies to the postdoc phase to professorship. You are welcome to visit us at our stand.

The Data Stewardship goes Germany (DSgG) workshop will take place in Aachen from September 11 to 12, 2024. A Talk on Coscine will be held there on the second day under the motto “Coscine and Data Stewardship”. The 20-minute talk will consist of three short flash talks and will cover topics such as how data stewards can support researchers in their daily use of Coscine.

A basic workshop on Coscine online will take place on October 10, 2024.

The series of Coscine workshops will also start in November as part of the FDM II module. This series will also include a basic workshop and a workshop on metadata profiles and automated processes in and with Coscine.
