Fwd: Invitation: CCLS Colloquium with Wolfgang Wall
Dear CCLS members and interested researchers,
we hereby cordially invite you to join the next CCLS Colloquium with Prof. Dr.-Ing. Wolfgang Wall from TU Munich on:
"Computational Respiratory Biomechanics – From Bench to Bedside, From Cradle to Grave”
When? Tuesday, 26th November 2024, 4 pm Where? Generali Hall in Super C
Abstract The basic idea of this talk is to demonstrate how novel approaches in Computational Science and Engineering can generate far more added value to medicine than we have been able to experience so far. Done the right way, it will be a game changer and can even lead to a paradigm shift in health care. An honest and deep interdisciplinary collaboration with medical, biological, and biophysical experts is essential for this to become true. The other prerequisites are that all crucial building blocks on the computational side are at the highest level – starting from the art of modeling, the theoretically sound and efficient numerical methods, and all the computational aspects. We try to propose a truly individualized, in-silico powered, predictive medicine (I2Med). The idea will mainly be demonstrated using the example of the respiratory system for medical questions at all stages of life. We will show advanced physics-based (and data-enhanced) models that nicely show how advanced basic science can be translated to direct applications at the bedside. To achieve our goal, we will first identify crucial – and so far – open medical questions and then, to provide new insights and help answer vital questions, show relevant physical and modeling aspects, advanced methods that allow both simulation of large-scale models on HPC systems and reduced order models to be used at the bedside, but also how uncertainties can be quantified and parameters identified for such complex systems – two crucial aspects in medicine –, up to how this can be used for digital twinning in the true meaning of this buzz term.
We look forward to seeing you there!
Kind regards Andreas Schuppert & Lisa Schätzle
