| A une semaine de l'annonce de la sélection officielle du Festival de Cannes, lors de la conférence de presse qui aura lieu le 23 avril, Gilles Jacob dévoile la composition du jury des longs métrages.
Le président, Patrice Chéreau, sera entouré des comédiennes Aishwarya Rai (Inde), Meg Ryan (Etats-Unis) et Karin Viard (France). L'écrivain napolitain Erri De Luca, le comédien français Jean Rochefort et les réalisateurs Steven Soderbergh (américain), Danis Tanovic (bosniaque) et Jiang Wen (chinois) complèteront le groupe.
Le jury annoncera le Palmarès 2003 lors de la cérémonie de clôture du festival, le 25 mai prochain. | |

| One week prior to the announcement of the films in the Official Selection, at the press conference on April 23rd; Gilles Jacob has revealed the Jury for the films in competition.
Patrice Chéreau, the Jury President will be joined by the actresses Aishwarya Rai (India), Meg Ryan (USA) and Karin Viard (France). The Italian writer Erri De Luca, the French actor Jean Rochefort and the directors Steven Soderbergh (American), Danis Tanovic (Bosnian) et Jiang Wen (Chinese) will complete the group.
The Jury will announce the Palme d'Or and the 2003Awards during the closing ceremony of the Festival on May 25th.

Le 56e Festival de Cannes, qui se déroule du 14 au 25 mai, se place sous le signe de Federico Fellini à l'occasion du dixième anniversaire de sa disparition : l'affiche officielle de l'année lui est dédiée et la manifestation sera ponctuée de nombreux événements en hommage au maître du cinéma.
Une rétrospective intégrale de son oeuvre, organisée grâce à Cinecittà Holding et à tous les producteurs de Fellini, sera présentée dans plusieurs salles du Palais et de la Ville de Cannes, ainsi que chaque soir au " Cinéma de la plage ".
Présentée en copies neuves ou restaurées dont certaines dans des versions inédites voulues par le cinéaste, cette rétrospective sera accompagnée d'une série de documentaires et d'images de Fellini au travail.
Par ailleurs, de nombreuses animations feront revivre les musiques écrites pour Fellini : un ensemble de cuivres interprètera les thèmes les plus fameux de Nino Rota dans le kiosque à musique tandis que, sur la Croisette, la promenade musicale reprendra les compositions de Nino Rota et de Nicola Piovani pour les films de Fellini.
Enfin, Nicola Piovani, dernier compositeur ayant travaillé avec Federico Fellini évoquera son travail avec le metteur en scène lors d'une Leçon de Musique donnée au Palais des Festivals le mardi 20 mai – première du genre organisée à Cannes.
L'hommage à Federico Fellini se déroulera également à Paris au même moment : quinze films ressortent à l'Arlequin (6e) et au McMahon (17e) à partir du 14 mai.
Manifestation organisée par le Festival de Cannes et Cinecittà Holding avec la participation de Mediaset-Cinema Forever, Scuola Nazionale di Cinema-Cineteca Nazionale, avec le soutien du Ministère des biens culturels et en collaboration avec la Région Emilie-Romagne et de la Fondation Federico Fellini de Rimini.

| Cannes Under the Sign of Fellini |

| The 56th Festival de Cannes, to be held from the 14th to the 25th of May, placed under the sign of Federico Fellini on the occasion of his passing, 10 years ago. This year's official poster is dedicated to him and the unfolding of the Festival will be marked by numerous events in tribute to the master filmmaker
An integral retrospective of his work, organized with the gracious help of Cinecittà Holding and all of Fellini's producers, will be presented in several theatres of the Palais and in the Town of Cannes, as well as nightly screenings at the "Cinéma de la Plage"..
There will be new and restored prints, certain of which will contain unseen material the director had initially included. The retrospective will be accompanied by a series of documentaries and photos of Fellini at work.
Moreover, there will be a number of events that will bring to life the music written for Fellini, such as a brass band which will interpret famous musical themes by Nino Rota in the musical kiosk. On the Croisette, the musical esplanade will play Nino Rota's and Nicola Piovanni's compositions of Fellini's films.
Finally, Nicola Piovanni, the last composer to have worked with Federico Fellini, will discuss his work with the director, during a Music Lesson which will be given at the Palais des Festival on the 20th of May – a first for Cannes.
The tribute to Federico Fellini will also take place in Paris at the same time. Fifteen of his films will be re-released at the Arlequin Theatre (6th arrondissement) and the McMahon (17th arrondissement) starting on the 14th of May.
This event is organized by the Festival de Cannes and Cinecittà Holding, with the participation of Mediaset-Cinema Forever, Scuola Nazionale di Cinema-Cineteca Nazionale, and with the support of Ministero per i Beni e le Attività Culturali, in collaboration with Regione Emilia-Romagna Fondazione Federico Fellini

| Les lumières de la Ville
L'artiste américaine qui signe l'affiche officielle du 56e Festival de Cannes, Jenny Holzer, célèbre dans le monde entier pour ses installations lumineuses, a conçu pour le Festival un spectacle sur mesure. Chaque jour du 14 au 25 mai, dès la nuit tombée, le Palais, la plage, la colline du Suquet, feront office d'écrans géants où vont défiler, comme des génériques, des citations de réalisateurs du monde entier. Ces projections lumineuses, faisant naître dans toute la ville la magie du cinéma, vont renforcer le lien entre le festival et la cité qui l'accueille.
Cannes en musique
Pour la deuxième année consécutive, le Festival va mettre la Croisette en musique et l'animer au rythme du cinéma : chaque journée sera dédiée à un compositeur de musique de films parmi lesquels Ryuichi Sakamoto, Georges Delerue et Nino Rota, dont on pourra découvrir ou retrouver le meilleur de l'oeuvre en se promenant sur la Croisette.
Le kiosque à musique offrira certains soirs un intermède musical joué par un ensemble de 6 cuivres sur les grands thèmes de Nino Rota, en hommage à Federico Fellini.
Un concert public sera donné lundi 19 mai par trois grands noms de la musique de film : Bruno Coulais, Nicola Piovani et Michael Nyman y dirigeront l'Orchestre de Cannes.
C'est aussi Nicola Piovani qui présentera mardi 20 mai au Palais des Festivals la première Leçon de Musique, en écho à la désormais célèbre Leçon de Cinéma.
Le Cinéma de la Plage
Le Festival installe tous les soirs sur la plage, une salle de cinéma de plein air qui sera accessible à tous. Dans des conditions techniques excellentes et avec une très bonne qualité d'accueil, le " Cinéma de la plage ", salle du Festival à part entière, offrira une programmation riche et variée : des copies neuves de la rétrospective Fellini, mais aussi des films de la sélection officielle hors compétition ainsi que les courts métrages en compétition.
En 2003, le Festival met ainsi à la disposition de tous les cinéphiles et du public de Cannes de nombreuses passerelles qui les relient au coeur de l'événement et permettent à tous de vivre au rythme du festival, en y participant pleinement.

| Festival & Cannes: A Cinema City

| City Lights
Jenny Holzer, designer of the official poster for the 56th Festival de Cannes and celebrated American artist best known for her luminous installations, has conceived a tailor made event for the Festival. Every evening at sundown, the Palais, the beach and the Suquet neighbourhood will be transformed into as many giant screens, projecting sentences by filmmakers, like credits from a film. These radiant projections will give birth to the magic of cinema and will create a strong connection between the festival and the town which welcomes it.
Music in Cannes
For the second year running the Festival will animate the Croisette with music, in rhythm with the movies. From the 14th to the 25th of May, each day will be dedicated to a film score composer, such as Ryuichi Sakamoto, Georges Delerue and Nino Rota, whose best music can be re-discovered by walking down the Croisette.
The musical kiosk will offer, on specific nights, a musical interlude by a brass band who will interpret the major themes of Nino Rota in tribute to Federico Fellini.
A public concert will be held on the 19th of May by three great film composers, where Bruno Coulais, Nicola Piovanni, and Michael Nyman, three of the greatest film composers, will lead the Cannes Orchestra.
On the 20th of May, Nicola Piovanni will give the first ever Music Master Class, a nod to the celebrated annual event, the Film Master Class.
The Cinéma de la Plage
The Festival will set up a nightly open-air cinema, accessible to all. Operating at a high technical standard and with an excellent seating arrangement, the Cinéma de la Plage, one of the Festival's unique theatres, will offer up a rich and varied programme: new prints from the Fellini retrospective, including films from Official Selection, such as Out-of-Competition and the Short Films In Competition.
In 2003 the Festival will offer the film-going public, along with the Cannes public, numerous pathways which will lead to the heart of the events, living the moment as full participants and in the rhythm of the Festival.

| Cannes 2003 : Matrix Reloaded sur la Croisette |

Le 56e Festival de Cannes, qui se déroule du 14 au 25 mai prochain, accueillera Matrix Reloaded, deuxième partie de la trilogie Matrix, en Sélection Officielle.
Matrix Reloaded réunit à nouveau le producteur Joel Silver et les scénaristes-réalisateurs Larry et Andy Wachowski. Il est interprété par Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss et Hugo Weaving auxquels s'ajoutent désormais Jada Pinkett Smith, Monica Bellucci et Lambert Wilson.
L'équipe du film sera présente pour la première internationale de Matrix Reloaded, qui sera présenté Hors Compétition le jeudi 15 mai et sortira dans le monde entier à la suite de sa première à Cannes.

The 56th Festival de Cannes, to be held from the 14th to the 25th of May, will welcome the “The Matrix Reloaded,” the second installment in the “The Matrix” trilogy, in the Official Selection.
"The Matrix Reloaded" reunites producer Joel Silver and writers/directors Larry and Andy Wachowski with stars Keanu Reeves, Laurence Fishburne, Carrie-Anne Moss and Hugo Weaving, and introduces new cast members Jada Pinkett Smith, Monica Bellucci and Lambert Wilson.
Cast and filmmakers will be in attendance at the international premiere of “The Matrix Reloaded,” which will be presented out-of-competition on Thursday, May 15, and will be released internationally following the Cannes premiere.

| Mesures de sécurité pour le Festival de Cannes2003

| A quelques semaines de l'ouverture du prochain Festival de Cannes, qui s'annonce particulièrement riche en films et en évènements, nous souhaitons vous informer des mesures spécifiques mises en place afin d'assurer votre sécurité, qui viennent compléter le plan " Vigipirate renforcé " actuellement en vigueur en France.
Badges
Les badges sont obligatoires dans l'enceinte du Palais et du Village International. Ils doivent être portés en permanence avec la photo visible. Afin de les sécuriser davantage, tous les badges comportent cette année un hologramme infalsifiable.
Accès au Palais
Toutes les entrées du Festival de Cannes et du Marché du Film sont soigneusement contrôlées, avec la mise en place d'un contrôle à trois niveaux : badges, détection électronique et vérification des sacs.
Ce renforcement des contrôles peut occasionner de légers délais dont nous vous invitons à tenir compte dans vos déplacements. Nous vous conseillons, dans la mesure du possible, d'éviter de transporter sacs et objets métalliques.
Circulation des voitures
Le Plan de circulation de la Ville de Cannes est modifié de manière à neutraliser le stationnement aux abords immédiats du Palais des Festivals ; l'accès aux bas des marches est strictement réservé aux véhicules officiels.
Surveillance dans le Palais
Un dispositif de vidéosurveillance est mis en place dans le Palais des Festivals pour détecter en temps réel tout acte suspect ou malveillant. Une brigade d'agent démineurs avec chiens effectue des rondes de sécurité.
Sécurité dans la Ville de Cannes
Les effectifs de la Gendarmerie Nationale, de la Police Nationale et de la Police Municipale seront renforcés par 5 Escadrons de Gendarmerie durant le Festival de Cannes. Les Affaires Maritimes assurent la surveillance du plan d'eau. Un système municipal de vidéosurveillance renforce la sécurité autour du Palais des Festivals et des hôtels.
Hôtels
Depuis l'instauration en France du plan " Vigipirate ", tous les hôtels ont renforcé les mesures de sécurité et des recommandations toutes particulières leurs ont été faites pour la période du Festival de Cannes.
Transports
Dans l'aéroport International de Nice-Côte d'Azur, la police opère une fouille minutieuse des bagages et voyageurs et patrouille dans les bâtiments, aidée par des militaires déjà affectés pour la protection du site. Les services de sécurité de la SNCF assurent une surveillance renforcée dans les trains à destination de Cannes et dans la gare.

| Security measures for the 2003 Festival de Cannes |

| The Festival de Cannes, which promises an impressive line-up of films and events, is now only a few weeks away and we would like to inform you of the additional measures which have been put in place in order to reinforce safety, alongside the French national security plan "Vigipirate".
Badges
Badges are obligatory within the Palais des Festivals and the Village International. They must be worn at all times with photos clearly visible. They have been made fraud-proof with the use of a hologram this year.
Access to the Palais
All entrances to the Festival de Cannes and the Marché du Film will be very carefully checked with security on three levels : badges, electronic scans and bag searches.
These measures might cause slight delays and we recommend that you take this into account when planning your schedule.
Avoid where possible carrying bags and/or metal objects.
Traffic
Traffic diversion in the town of Cannes has been modified and parking in the immediate vicinity of the Palais des Festivals is prohibited ; access to the bottom of the red carpet is strictly reserved to official cars.
Video surveillance in the Palais des Festivals
Video cameras have been installed in the Palais des Festivals to detect immediately any suspicious movements. A team of bomb detectors with dogs will be making regular rounds.
Safety in the town of Cannes
The number of police present from the Gendarmerie Nationale, the Police Nationale and the Police Municipale will be reinforced by five squadrons during the Festival de Cannes. The Maritime department is in charge of the safety of the water system. Town video cameras have been put in place around the Palais des Festivals and the hotels.
Hotels
Since the French national security plan " Vigipirate " has been in place, all hotels have reinforced their security measures and they have been given special advice for the period of the Festival de Cannes.
Transport
At the international airport Nice-Côte d'Azur, the police carry out in-depth searches of all baggage and travellers and patrol the buildings with the help of the military, there to protect the area. The French train network, the SNCF, has reinforced security on trains travelling to Cannes and at the main station.
