Subhash Ghai, leading Indian film maker invited to the
Cannes Festival Subhash
Ghai, a leading Indian filmmaker will be in Cannes from 12th to 18th May 2004
to promote his forthcoming film "KISNA" -
which is being shot in Hindi and English simultaneously so as to reach out to
a larger audience across the world. With 25 yrs of experience as writer,
director and producer and some of Indian cinema's biggest blockbusters in
recent memory including KARZ, KARMA, HERO, TAAL and PARDES etc behind him,
Subhash Ghai has been a pioneer in many aspects related to the Indian
entertainment industry. His company Mukta Arts is the benchmark for other
companies in the industry to follow. Mukta Arts was the first Indian
entertainment company to list on the Bombay Stock Exchange; and Mr.
Ghai has attended various forums on entertainment across the world and is at
present the Chairman of Confederation of India Industry-Entertainment Sector.
It is his experience, his passion and his forward thinking that has made the
French Cultural Minister Jean-Jacques Aillagon and Gilles Jacob, the
President of the Festival of Cannes Government of France invite him to be a
part of the round table on Anti Piracy at this years Cannes Film Festival.
The round table is a special initiative to confront the issues of piracy and
digital technologies. This round table will witness the presence of Chairmen
of the biggest movie studios around the world, including participation from Subhash
Ghai has earned the respect that comes with being a veteran director.
Starting as a partnership firm in 1978 under his leadership, Mukta Arts has
grown in leaps and bounds to become the first Indian Film Production Company
to place an IPO in 2000. With 12 blockbusters under his belt, there has been
much appreciation for his work for his biggest Indian blockbusters worldwide
such as Karz (1980), Hero (1983), Karma (1985) Ram Lakhan (1989), Saudagar
(1991), Khalnayak (1993), Pardes (1997), With
Mukta Arts Ltd making forays into the entire business of entertainment
including distribution, state-of-the-art equipment for world-class production
and post production operations, today much of Mr. Ghai's time is distributed
between his two dreams- the setting up Whistling Woods International, a $ 20
million world class film and television institute in Mumbai, that would offer
international standard training to Indian and foreign students hoping to make
a mark in the domestic film industry and internationally; and "KISNA",
his $ 6 million dollar period drama set during film set during Indian
independence for the global market which is scheduled for by November 2004. "KISNA" stars
Vivek Oberoi, British actress Antonio Bernath and Isha Shravani, a renowned
dancer from Kerala in the lead roles along with British actors Michael
Maloney, Caroline Langrishe and veteran actress Polly Adams. The cast is
supported with a talented team of Indian actors including Hrishita Bhatt,
Amrish Puri, Om Puri and Rajat Kapur. "KISNA" is an
epic duel between 'Karma' and 'Dharma'.
