Japan has won global acclaim for the originality and quality of its animation, as broadened into worldwide appeal, with Japan supplying roughly 60% of the animation shown on television and in theaters around the world. Japans anime industry comprises more than 400 companies, over 60% of which are based in Tokyo. Branded-character merchandising, including the licensing of rights to use anime characters and sales of toy figures and other goods using characters images, is huge, and the total anime market is believed to be worth more than $18 billion in annual sales.

During Licensing 2006 International JETRO will arrange business meetings between Japanese exhibitors and interested firms. Japanese companies available for meetings include Ingram, Studio 4C, Studio Deen, and Tezuka Productions. This service is free, but please note that there is a seperate registration fee for Licensing International 2006.
