Ltd., a premier film production house based in India, launched specifically to produce quality films for the international market. In 2005 Maya Movies produced The Rising Ballad of Mangal Pandey, an Indo - British co-production, starring Aamir Khan and Toby Stephens. The Rising was one of the biggest films produced in India and the biggest Indian release of the year. The film was selected as the inaugural film at the Locarno film festival and received international distribution and acclaim. Currently we are launching a feature film project titled Colours Of Passion in English and looking for a European co-producer for the project. The Colours Of Passion is a classic romance of an artist and his muse set at the end of 19th century India and the story of his dramatic struggle to preserve creative freedom. The film is woven around the life and times of the great Indian painter of the 19th century, Raja Ravi Verma and has a substantial German interest. One of the central characters in the film is the German master printer named Fritz Schleicher. He introduced the Printing technology to Ravi Verma and India. They became partners and started the first lithographic printing press in India. The exquisite prints of Ravi Verma paintings revolutionized Indian art. The film is budgeted at two million Euros and we have already tied up 60% of the funding for the project. To be directed by Ketan Mehta one of the most internationally acclaimed directors from India, the film is slated for production August to October this year.
