Director:
YILMAZ
ERDOGAN (VIZONTELE)
Tarik Akan
A
cinema veteran with over 100 films to his credit. He gained international fame outside of
Turkey after winning the SILVER BERLIN BEAR award for his outstanding
performance in PEHLIVAN.
This
uproarious sequel to the box office record-breaking hit relies on the same
successful recipe that had people eagerly standing in lines to see
VIZONTELE.
Set
against the backdrop of political upheaval prior to Turkey's military coup in
September 1980, this wild comedy has left international audiences rolling with
laughter and coming back for more.
The
story begins when
the newly appointed library director (Akan) arrives in the town with his
wheelchair bound daughter Tuuba, to discover that there's no library, no books,
and no apparent need for anything other than the magic of television. It doesn’t take long for sparks to fly
between the handicapped Tuuba (Tugba Unsal) and the local eccentric “Crazy Emin”
(Erdogan). Racing
through its’ side-splitting and fast paced script this endearing, romantic tale
never misses a beat or a laugh as the eccentric village characters constantly
clash with each other and the unlikely relationship between Emin and Tuuba
blossoms.

In
the same vein as MY BIG FAT GREEK WEDDING and BEND IT LIKE BECKHAM, this
outrageous comedy has broken all box office records in its’ native home Turkey,
reaching an astounding 3.8 millions viewers and become and international
phenomenon.
Featuring
a wonderful ensemble of richly developed characters, hilarious mis-adventures
and glorious cinematography by Omer Faruk Sorak, Vizontele is a laugh-out-loud
comedy that celebrates the human spirit that has opened the world’s eyes to the
finest international cinema that Turkey has to
offer!
Set
in a small southeastern village in 1974 Turkey, Vizontele takes a hilarious and
lighthearted look at what happens to a small village when the 1st
television is literally thrust into the daily lives of the
townspeople.
Playing
on the Turkish word for Television, Televizyon, the unknowing villagers
mistakenly refer to the new gizmo as a Vizontele! With no understanding of how to operate
it, they enlist the local eccentric and general electronics wizard (wonderfully
played by Erdogan) to fix the TV and get it working.
Deftly
written and well paced the tale take a humorous look at the effect the
distinctively “western” technology has on the small town’s old traditions. Always played for good-natured laughs, a
series of outrageous circumstances arise as the honest Mayor, the sleazy theater
owner, the corrupt businessman and the rest of town cope with sudden changes the
Vizontele will bring.
