Lithuania the first to buy the rights to
FreezerBurn the Movie on eBay!
"Who knew Lithuania to be the most progressive of territories!", Director, Melissa Balin laughed, "I always said that I wanted to be huge in Lithuania and Japan- so this is a great personal victory!"
Due to the international awareness raised by Balin's solution to alternative distribution, the remaining territories are still available through a second round of auctions that end in just two days. While at Cannes, able to meet face to face with distributors and sales agents from all over the world, Balin is no longer regarded as 'crazy' and she has garnered respect for her outside-of-the-box creativity that was slow to be recognized initially in the States. Balin credits Ian Mohr's piece in International Variety for validating her efforts to the more conservative of territories. "With the purchase of Lithuanian rights, we are hoping that more territories will feel comfortable to take the plunge... after all, on the Riviera, the water's great!", Balin encourages.
By Cannes next year, Rhizotomi Group Releases, who sponsored the FreezerBurn auctions on eBay, hopes to have a booth and an online international bidding forum that addresses the needs of both buyers and sellers of film that eBay is not currently set up for. "I'm leaving Cannes with a tremendous amount of international feedback and encouragement for my progressive philosophies on finding homes for your movie. This is only the beginning.", Balin said with a mischievous grin.
The second round of auctions will close in just a few days and with so much press surrounding the indie flick, the prices are likely to increase by the next international market. "If you act now-", Balin laughs, "We might throw in a set of Ginsu knives!"
