Dear students!
Apart from the regular BeBuddy programme, there are additional possibilities for you to get active as a summer mentor this year:
1. In the frame of the RWTH International Academy Virtual Summer Schools<https://www.academy.rwth-aachen.de/en/education-formats/summer-schools>
or
2. As a mentor for international GUTech<https://www.gutech.edu.om/> students from Oman
If you are interested in being a mentor in these additional programmes to support international students, please find all relevant information below. But please consider: Being a mentor in one of these two programmes won’t be considered as a BeBuddy activity as these programmes are run through external partners. Therefore, you won’t be handed out a BeBuddy certificate after taking part in these summer school courses, but you will receive another certificate which can be taken into account for the certificate international (selective component / “Wahlpflichtkomponente” Group 2).
You, of course, are welcome to mentor in the BeBuddy programme additionally.
Registration for these external programmes runs through the International Academy (ShortCourses(a)academy.rwth-aachen.de<mailto:ShortCourses@academy.rwth-aachen.de>) for the first programme,
and through Mr. Tobias Adam (T.Adam(a)wzl.rwth-aachen.de<mailto:T.Adam@wzl.rwth-aachen.de>) for the second GuTech mentor programme.
1) RWTH International Academy is looking for Summer School mentors
The RWTH International Academy organizes each year Summer Schools for students from all around the world in cooperation with the International Office and Institutes of RWTH Aachen University. Due to the current situation, this year’s programs will take place digitally in form of Online Courses<https://www.academy.rwth-aachen.de/en/education-formats/summer-schools?utm_…>. Therefore we are looking for Summer Mentors<https://www.academy.rwth-aachen.de/en/index/education-formats/summer-school…> for our two online programs in August.

Responsibilities
The team would like to provide the international students of each Online Course program with Mentors, who support them during their virtual stay at RWTH Aachen University. All Summer Mentors are welcome to take part in the social program of the Online Courses. We are organizing for example a intercultural meet-up, stretching sessions, and honoring events like a welcome orientation and a closing ceremony.
After the closing ceremony, RWTH International Academy will award all Summer Mentors an official participation certificate for their efforts and support.
Furthermore, your commitment as Mentors can be recognized as a “selective component, group 2” for the certificate “Zertifikat-Internationales” (Certificate International): https://www.rwth-aachen.de/go/id/bxhf.

Preparation
During the Mentoring Workshops, we present the Online Courses’ weekly schedules and contents, have an intercultural training and talk about the Summer Mentors’ responsibilities.
The digital Summer Mentor Workshop will be on July 7, 2021 from 01:00 pm – 04:00 pm.
Since the workshop is mandatory, please let us know about your participation.

We would be delighted to welcome you as Summer Mentors in our Online Courses.
2) Call for volunteers – Online buddies for GUtech students in Summer 2021
The International Office is currently setting up the framework for an online internship program for students of GUtech, Oman. This is happening on short notice, so we are looking for spontaneous people!
Under the supervision of a scientific supervisor from RWTH, GUtech<https://www.gutech.edu.om/> students will work on selected projects between Mid of July and Beginning of September, 2021. Beyond this academic supervision, we would like to enable an intercultural experience for the participants from GUtech.
This is where you might come in: We are looking for volunteers who are willing to regularly meet the GUtech-students online and interact with them about life at a German university, your experience as a student in Aachen and potential plans for the future. We think that this can be an enriching experience for both sides and – once the Corona pandemic is over – you might meet your counterpart in ‘real life’ in future – be it in Oman or in Germany.
Prerequisites: Having participated in the BeBuddy training as a buddy and being listed in the BeBuddy database.
